Since our official launch in March, the Quantock Heritage Group is ready to take its next exciting step—welcoming our first members.
Who are we?
The Quantocks and surrounding areas are steeped in historical tales—flint tools from Mesolithic wanderers, Bronze Age monuments, Roman footprints, Saxon traces, and more. Every era has left its mark. The Quantock Heritage Group (QHG) is here to uncover, record, protect, and share these stories.
With professional archaeologists Ant Haskins (Oxford Archaeology Ltd) and Dan Broadbent (Quantock Landscape Partnership Scheme) guiding us, and supported by over 30 volunteers, our aim is to build a dynamic, community-led project through field work, events, and storytelling.
This is a long-term community archaeology initiative, underpinned by professional guidance and aligned with the standards of the Chartered Institute for Archaeologists (CIfA). Our findings will contribute to the Somerset Historic Environment Record (HER), ensuring local discoveries are part of the wider historical record, while offering the local community a hands-on role in shaping historical understanding.
